Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran, born on March 10, 1949, is an American businesswoman and investor. She is also a lecturer as a consultant, columnist syndicated, speaker as an author, author, and television presenter. The Corcoran Group was a New York City real estate brokerage she established. NRT purchased it for $66million in 2001. Corcoran eventually left the company. One of the original "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in the entire 12 seasons of ABC's Shark Tank to date. By February 2020, she had completed 53 deals. The most significant of these was a $350,000 investment in Coverplay at 40 percent. Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, the second child of 10 in a middle class Irish-Catholic family. Florence Corcoran's mother was a homemaker. Her father, Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was a bouncing from job to job during Corcoran's youth. Her family sometimes depended on free food delivery from a friendly local grocery store. Corcoran remembers her father, one who would drink excessively, and behaved towards her mother in a manner that was disrespectful and condescendingly, particularly after he'd had several drinks. Corcoran was a struggling student in school. She later discovered that she was dyslexic. Corcoran was educated at a Catholic elementary and then started high school in Englewood at St. Cecilia High School. Corcoran was a failure in several courses in her freshman year, moved to Leonia High School. There she was awarded a D.
