Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American politician and attorney who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official of the United States. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis which could lead to the citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. National attention was gained for her shrewd examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
